Healthcare leaders explore outsourcing to cut costs — 4 insights

A Black Book Market Research survey claims 98 percent of hospital leaders are weighing whether to outsource services to cut costs.

Here’s what you should know.

1. Healthcare leaders identified two areas they’re considering outsourcing for: teleradiology and medical imaging equipment. Hospitals lack the resources to invest in and upgrade such equipment.

2. Of hospitals that outsourced services, 81 percent said the service exceeded their expectations.

3. Only 2 percent of respondents said they could never outsource because of anticipated adverse reactions from staff and community members.

4. In a separate poll of 105 vendor executives, a majority said outsourcing is in hot demand, with vendors receiving a 60 percent more proposals since the fourth quarter of 2016.
