Crisis averted — Blue Cross, Children’s Minnesota strike 3-year deal

After missing a July 5 deadline to finalize a contract, Minneapolis-based Children’s Minnesota and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota struck a deal July 7, the Minnesota StarTribune reports.

Here’s what you should know:

1. The payer and health organization agreed on a three-year deal to restore in-network access to the pediatric hospital.

2. Before the deal was struck, Children’s patients could’ve been forced to pay out-of-network rates, potentially totaling several thousands of dollars per patient.

3. Minnesota’s Attorney General Lori Swanson helped mediate the deal.

4. Contract specifics were not revealed.
