Chief Information Officer for Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center John Halamka suggests creating disease-specific templates and using a “daily note” that’s created in a mobile, shareable app. This app would be used to capture free text and populate the templates.

He also suggested creating rules to ensure documentation is complete enough for ICD-10 codes.
