Here’s what you should know.
1. Several leading healthcare lobbying organizations, physicians and providers wrote a letter urging President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and the U.S. Congress to renew efforts to move towards value-based care.
2. In a random survey of 426 physicians in the American Medical Association’s database, 68.7 percent of respondents urged for the increased use of health savings accounts, 66.5 percent wanted a public insurance option to compete with private plans and 61.7 percent wanted physicians paid for value rather than volume.
3. Rajiv Leventhal, the column’s author, argued the outpouring of support for value-based care was “especially noteworthy.”
4. Mr. Leventhal said support for bundled payments and accountable care organizations was “murkier” because of split political support.
5. Mr. Leventhal concluded although healthcare’s future is still up for debate, the large amount of support the healthcare sector has expressed for value-based care could “hammer that point home.”
