CMS to pilot pre-enrollment verification system to address ACA late enrollment: 3 thoughts

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently announced a pilot program to test post-enrollment eligibility it intends to have in place by 2017, The Hill reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. After receiving insurers complaints about the extra sign-up period being exploited, CMS developed the system as a way to make sure late enrollees are eligible to enroll.

2. By increasing these checks, it would address some insurer concerns about the law.

3. Consumer groups are taking issue with the proposal because of fears that it'll make the enrollment process "overly burdensome."
