Association of Home Care Coding & Compliance, ICD-10 Transition Workgroup clearing up coding confusion: 5 observations

The Association of Home Care Coding & Compliance and the Home Health and Hospice ICD-10 Transition Workgroup are collaborating with the American Hospital Association’s Coding Clinic to smooth over confusion about coding.

Here are five observations:

1. The groups are addressing confusion about using ‘A’ as the seventh character signifying initial encounter by home health agencies.

2. The Coding Clinic will answer industry queries from the AHCC board and the Board of Medical Specialty Coding & Compliance.

3. The Coding Clinic Editorial Advisory Board will discuss the query and response before issuing guidance.

4. The Transition Workgroup associations will submit coding questions for review by AHCC’s board.

5. The collaboration among associations creates one avenue for industry coding questions. The various associations will release guidance collectively at one time.
