Here are four things to know:

1. In 2018, the department will lower payments for ASCs, inpatient hospitals and outpatient hospitals by 5 percent.

2. In an email, DHSS Public Information Officer Sarana Schell said, “(The cut) is specifically to avoid asking for an increment to the Medicaid budget in (supplemental) fiscal year 2018.”

3. The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services is looking to cut $30 million from the state’s Medicaid budget in 2017. Medicaid covers 25 percent of Alaska’s population, according to a May 31 Alaska Department of Health and Social Services report.
