The AMA has called ICD-10 an unnecessary administrative and financial undertaking, but Kathy DaVault, manager of professional practice resources at AHIMA, stated that the U.S. healthcare system has outgrown ICD-9 and ICD-11 is a decade away from being modified to work in this country. ICD-10 is the necessary next step.
CMS said it is working collaboratively with healthcare industry leaders to make the ICD-10 implementation as smooth as possible. The organization is also working on a formal response to the AMA’s letter of concern.
