After late enrollment rush, CMS extends Healthcare.gov deadline: 4 things to know

The federal government extended the enrollment deadline for Healthcare.gov to Dec. 19, 2016 after a late rush of enrollees on Dec. 15, 2016, USA Today reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. Healthcare.gov CEO Kevin Counihan said nearly a million people had entered the virtual waiting line to gain coverage.

2. CMS extended the deadline in the past to accommodate the insurance seekers.

3. On Dec. 12 and Dec. 13, 2016, nearly 700,000 people used Healthcare.gov to gain coverage.

4. The final day to enroll for coverage in 2017 is Jan 31, 2017.
