Universal Health Care Action Network is in the midst of a letter writing campaign to express its opposition to Ohio's proposed work requirement for Medicaid beneficiaries, WOSU reports.
Here's what you should know.
1. The advocacy group delivered approximately 600 letters to the state's Medicaid office, expressing their opposition to the plan.
2. Steve Wagner, a spokesperson for Universal Health Care Action Network, said the work requirement would put unnecessary burdens on people seeking Medicaid coverage.
3. Among the 600 delivered letters from the campaign, a few dozen were in favor of the work requirement.
4. Policy Matters Ohio spokesperson Wendy Patton said, "Work requirements are redundant and unnecessary because this population is already working."
In Ohio, 75 percent of Medicaid recipients are either working or looking for work. Two thirds of the remaining 25 percent are either disabled or are caring for a family member.
