Here are five takeaways:
1. Robert M. McLean, MD, FACP, a member of ACP’s board of regents, chair of its medical practice and quality committee, an associate clinical professor of medicine at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and a practicing internal medicine physician, testified before the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health.
2. Dr. McLean spoke about what ACP is doing to help its 143,000 members be prepared to succeed under the law.
3. Dr. McLean highlighted three views in particular:
- Establish better measures and less burdensome reporting
- Create realistic pathways for patient-centered medical homes
- Define eligibility for alternative payment model requirements
4. ACP is also encouraging its members to consider using its interactive online tool ACP Practice Advisor, which offers practices the ability to conduct significant, evidence-based quality improvement based on the most up-to-date clinical guidelines, to improve performance on clinical quality measures, to implement the principles of the medical home model and to improve the overall management of their practice.
5. The American College of Physicians is the largest medical specialty organization and the second-largest physician group in the United States. Its members include internal medicine physicians, related subspecialties and medical students.
