ACA forces 36% of physicians to contemplate leaving medicine — 10 insights

A recent CompHelath study found 36 percent of all physicians are considering leaving the medical profession because of the Affordable Care Act.

Here are 10 insights:

1. Forty-five percent of private practice physicians reported considering leaving medicine due to the ACA's implementation.

2. Of those surveyed, 51 percent viewed the ACA unfavorably.

3. Thirty percent of surveyed physicians viewed the ACA favorably.

4. Of those physicians in private practice, 61 percent reported viewing the ACA in a negative light.

5. When probed whether the ACA enhanced patient access to healthcare, 47 percent agreed with the assessment.

6. Forty-four percent of physicians think the ACA has had a neutral impact on healthcare's quality.

7. Seventy-six percent of all physicians reported feeling they are not properly compensated by ACA reimbursements for their time.

8. Forty-four percent reported they spend less time with patients since the ACA's implementation.

9. The majority of physicians (68 percent) reported they are spending too much time entering data.

10. Fifty-nine percent reported spending too much time completing paperwork.
