Becker’s has recently reported on four physicians who have filed or won lawsuits against their former employers.

1. John Murphy, MD, an OB-GYN, filed a lawsuit against Bend, Ore.-based St. Charles Health system, alleging it forced him into closing his practice. The lawsuit alleges that the health system tried to “sabotage” his practice by poaching one of his colleagues and that it discriminated against Dr. Murphy by not hiring him, despite a previous understanding that it would do so, according to the report. Dr. Murphy has since decided to close his practice.

2. A jury awarded $7.25 million to David Irwin, MD, and his wife, Monica Zillen, after Dr. Irwin slipped and fell on ice and snow outside the UPMC Hamot Surgery Center in Erie, Pa., in 2014.

3. Two Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic surgeons filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, its nonprofit foundation, and affiliated ASCs alleging defamation, retaliation, sex discrimination and other unlawful actions, according to lawsuit documents accessed by Becker’s.
