Pocono Medical Center reaccredited — 6 highlights

The Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, Pa., has been reaccredited as a Level III Trauma Center, according to the Pocono Business Journal.

Here are six highlights:

1. The re-accreditation was granted based on a rigorous site survey conducted by the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation.

2. There are 34 accredited trauma centers through the Commonwealth, but Pocono Medical Center is the only Level III Trauma Center in the Commonwealth as well as the sole Trauma Center program for all of Monroe County.

3. The responsibilities of the program include the coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the trauma patient to ensure compliance with all state and national standards.

4. Pocono Medical Center became an accredited Trauma Center in 2008 with Lehigh Valley Health Network serving as the Level I Trauma partner.

5. In 2015, Pocono Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital at Lehigh Valley Hospital announced a partnership with the Monroe County Community Safety Program to educate and provide services involving child car seat safety, distracted driving education and accident prevention.

6. This year, Pocono Medical Center is celebrating its 100th anniversary. It has more than 230 physicians and over 2,000 staff employees, and was recently recognized as being among the top 10 percent in Pennsylvania and as a Best Regional Hospital by U.S. News and World Report.
