Jane O’Rourke, RN, DNP, NEA-BC, CENP, director of nursing for evidence-based practice, initiated a study to assess how ready staff members were to implement evidence-based practice. The medical center will pair staff nurses with nurse scholars to change clinical practice based on evidence-based medicine.
Doctorally prepared nurses on staff and those from local colleges will assist staff nurses in identifying pertinent clinical questions and researching the literature, according to the report. Nurses will then implement practice changes through the facility’s policies and procedures. If existing practices line up with evidence-based medicine, nurses will reinforce existing practices.
