Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal Signs Prescription Safety Bill

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has signed into law the Patient Safety Act of 2011, which allows the implementation of a prescription drug monitoring program aimed at stamping out prescription drug abuse, according to a Bryan County News report.

The program will be financed by federal funding, and only physicians and pharmacists will be able to access sensitive patient information. The providers will be provided with passwords and can only access their own patients’ information, according to the news report.
