Dr. Mark DeFrancesco meets with US surgeon general — 5 things to know

Mark S. DeFrancesco, MD, president of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as well as a board member of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, was part of a group of healthcare leaders who met with United States Surgeon General, Vice Admiral Vivek H. Murthy, MD.

Here are five things to know:

1. The meeting took place on Dec. 16 to discuss the current opioid problem in the United States and ways to attack the issue in 2016.

2. The group also discussed ideas for a multi-prong approach to reduce opioid abuse and overdosing.

3. Dr. DeFrancesco has been president of the ACOG since May 2015, and he was president of the AAAHC from 2009 to 2010. He has been an AAACH board member since 2000.

4. The AAAHC, founded in 1979, is a leader in ambulatory healthcare accreditation with more than 6,000 organizations accredited nationwide.

5. The ACOG is the nation’s leading group of physicians providing healthcare for women.
