Connecticut Surgery Center Fined, Placed on Probation for Safety Violations

The Center for Ambulatory Surgery in Westport, Conn., has been fined and placed on probation by the state's health department for multiple safety and procedural violations, according to a report from the New Haven Independent.

The ambulatory surgery center had its license to operate suspended in early May due to violations identified by inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Public Health including a lack of proper credentialing information, improper cleaning of instruments, failure to hold regular governing board meetings and improper tracking of infections.

On May 24, the ASC's owner consented to a $4,000 fine from the health department, a reprimand and two years' probation on the surgery center, according to the report. The ASC is also required to hire a consultant to assess operations and recommend changes.
