The Joint Commission and the CDC are collaborating on CDC guidelines related to preventing infections in ambulatory health settings.

Here’s what you should know.

1. The Adaptation and Dissemination Outpatient Infection PrevenTion guidance project is consulting with 12 outpatient-focused professional organizations and 11 ambulatory systems to create new infection prevention guidelines.

2. The two organizations plan to engage several professional organizations and state health departments in the coming months to add their insights into the ADOPT project.

3. HHS, the CDC and the Safety and Healthcare Epidemiology Prevention Research Development Task Order Contract funded the project.

4. The organizations will develop the guidelines through September 2018.
