University of Cincinnati College of Medicine named Andrew Friedrich, MD, chair of the department of anesthesiology.

Here are five things to know:

1. Dr. Friedrich has served as vice chairman for perioperative and critical care medicine at the college of medicine since 2012.

2. He created the University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s Center for Perioperative Care and has served as co-director of the cardiovascular intensive care unit.

3. He is a founding member of the Society for Preoperative Assessment and Quality Improvement.

4. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed publications, such as Anesthesia and Analgesia.

5. He has completed a fellowship in critical care medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and a fellowship in cardiac anesthesiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, both based in Boston.
