The report, which analyzed 800-plus U.S. hospitals, also placed SSC’s anesthesia department in the top 20 for “staff courtesy” and “staff spent time.”
Four principles helped SSC earn the honor, according to Anesthesia Services Director John Satterfield, MD:
1. Commitment to patient care and safety
2. Meeting the needs of clinician colleagues and administrators
3. A collegial and collaborative work environment
4. Adapting to the changing healthcare landscape
The anesthesia team communicates with patients by phone whenever necessary, makes a concerted effort to address their concerns, spends time talking to each patient through the anesthesia process and provides comprehensive follow-up.
SSC is a joint venture of New Britain-based Hospital of Central Connecticut, Meriden, Conn.-based MidState Medical Center and area physicians. The ASC partners with Melville, N.Y.-based North American Partners in Anesthesia.
“In every interaction throughout this process, patients experience how we live our NAPA mission — this is the ‘secret sauce’ that keeps clinicians and patients happy, and keeps SSC earning high marks for patient satisfaction, year after year,” Dr. Satterfield said in a blog post.
