Here’s what you should know:
1. STA’s Stephen Carlson, MD, Wade Porterfield, MD, and Orlando Cruz, MD, will join Coudersport, Pa.-based UPMC Cole’s anesthesia department Jan. 1, 2019, one day after STA’s contract with OGH expires. They were hired as individuals, not through a contract with STA.
2. OGH said it wouldn’t renew STA’s contract and accepted an offer from Buffalo, N.Y.-based Great Lakes Anesthesiology in order to save “several million dollars.” Actual figures of the contract proposals weren’t disclosed.
3. STA has six physicians, two certified registered nurse anesthetists and two office employees. STA’s Hector Martinez, MD, and his family are reportedly moving to Florida, and Spencer Russell, MD, will relocate his family to Virginia.
4. STA will cease to exist Jan. 1. The practice plans to sell its office.
“We’re all looking forward, we’re all moving on,” said Dr. Carlson, STA’s president. “It’s not what we chose, but we’re looking forward.”
