Revalidation of Medicare Enrollment for Anesthesiologists: 6 Points to Remember

Anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologist assistants, who last validated their enrollment in Medicare before March 25, 2011, will have to revalidate by March 23, 2015, according to an email release from Anesthesia Business Consultants.

Practices can only apply for revalidation after they receive notice from their Medicare Administrative Contractor any time up to March 23, 2015.

Anesthesia Business Consultants also lays out the following six points that anesthesiologists should keep in mind pending the arrival of the notices:

1. Practices have 60 days from the date of the revalidation request letter to submit complete enrollment forms. Do not try to start the process before you hear from your MAC.
2. Failure to comply may result in the deactivation of a practice’s Medicare billing privileges and a freeze on payments.
3. A practice may revalidate using either the Provider Enrollment Chain Ownership System (PECOS) website or a paper CMS-855 application.
4. The application must be complete and contain your entire enrollment data.
5. Remember to send in your supporting documentation, such as the IRS form CP-575 showing your employer identification number.
6. If you use the online PECOS system, be sure to mail in the signed certification statement within seven days.
