Michael Urban, MD, an anesthesiologist connected to a 2023 Colorado case in which a patient died during routine cataract surgery, is no longer practicing in Oregon after changing his license status to “retired,” state medical board officials confirmed.
Dr. Urban applied for an Oregon license shortly after the incident, but was later accused of misrepresentation during the application process and fined $5,000 in 2025, according to a Sept. 24 Rogue Valley Times report.
The Oregon Medical Board required Dr. Urban to practice under mentorship for 18 months, but his license shifted to retired status, effective Aug. 20, barring him from any medical practice.
In Colorado, Dr. Urban remains under review. State officials have only issued a temporary cessation of practice agreement, with no final disciplinary ruling to date, according to the report.
