MEDNAX acquires anesthesiology practice in Florida: 5 things to know

MEDNAX, a national medical group of neonatal, anesthesia, teleradiology, maternal-fetal and pediatric physician subspecialty services, acquired Millennium Anesthesia Care, a private physician group in Tampa, Fla.

Here are five things to know:

1. Millennium Anesthesia Care includes 79 full-time clinicians, with 26 anesthesiologists, 51 anesthetists and 2 ARNPs.

2. The anesthesiology practice offers services at five facilities of Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System/St. Joseph’s Hospital, including its ASC.

3. Anesthesia services offered include general anesthesia, neurosurgery, cardiac, vascular, pediatric, orthopedic, obstetric, gynecologic, chronic pain and acute pain management for post-operate pain.

4. MEDNEX clinicians provide services throughout BayCare Health System.

5. The acquisition was a cash transaction, and is expected to be immediately accretive to earnings.

“We saw the trend of healthcare consolidation becoming more widespread and understood the importance of having the resources, support and long-term stability a national medical group can provide our practices, as well as the value we can now bring to our hospital partner,” said Jim Gruber, MD, the new medical director for Millennium.
