March FDA Committee Meeting to Discuss Pediatric Anesthesia

The Food and Drug Administration has announced a meeting of its anesthetic and life support drugs advisory committee on March 10, 2011, according to a Reuters report.

At the meeting, the committee will:

• Receive updates about findings related to degeneration in the nervous system in juvenile animals exposed to anesthetic drugs
• Receive updates about results from human epidemiological studies using anesthesia in children
• Discuss the findings’ relevance to pediatric patients and provide guidance for future studies
• Discuss the potential implications of these data on the practice of pediatric anesthesia
