Inhaled Analgesia Reduces Labor Pains

Inhaled analgesia is effective in reducing pain during the first stage of labor, according to News Medical.

Twenty-six studies involved 2,959 women were analyzed. Inhaled analgesia consists of breathing in a mixture of oxygen and either a flurane derivative or nitrous oxide. The mother’s pain is reduced, but she is able to remain awake and swallow normally.
