For the first time in the U.S., a death row inmate will be executed with only an anesthetic, according to a Forbes report.

The inmate will be executed with only pentobarbital. Ohio is now using pentobarbital because of shortages of sodium thiopental, the anesthetic previously injected in death row executions.

Ohio Governor John Kasich rejected the inmate’s mercy request despite the victim’s family’s opposition to the death penalty.
