Here’s what you should know:
1. Mr. Davis allegedly emailed businesswoman Brenda Montgomery about the forgery plan sometime during his tenure as CEO from 2011 to 2017.
2. Mr. Davis and Ms. Montgomery were both indicted for an illegal kickback scheme and pleaded not guilty in federal court. Federal prosecutors said they plan to use the alleged forgery emails as evidence in Mr. Davis’ upcoming trial.
3. Ms. Montgomery allegedly paid Mr. Davis at least $770,000 in kickbacks to refer CPS patients to her company, CCC Medical, for medical devices. She allegedly used the referrals to bill Medicare for at least $4.6 million and receive about $2.6 million in reimbursements.
4. CPS shuttered abruptly in July. It treated more than 40,000 patients a month in eight states.
