Dr. Ralph Lydic Earns ASA Excellence in Research Award

Ralph Lydic, PhD, received the American Society of Anesthesiologists' 2012 Excellence in Research Award for his research on the neurobiology of sleep and breathing, according to News-Medical.

Dr. Ralph Lydic, winner of the ASA 2012 Excellence in Research AwardDr. Lydic's sleep research has focused on arousal state-dependent respiratory depression, sleep and pain and the neurochemical control of sleep and anesthesia. His work has been funded by grants from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute since 1988.

His work has helped promote a new dimension of patient care by bringing clinical anesthesia and sleep disorder medicine closer together. Dr. Lydic serves on the board of the Society for Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine and is a founding member.

Dr. Lydic is the associate chair for research at the University of Michigan's department of anesthesiology in Ann Arbor. He is also a professor of anesthesiology.
