Dr. Howard Zucker to Take Over New York Health Commissioner Duties, Following Dr. Nirav Shah’s Departure

Howard Zucker, MD, has been named interim New York Health Commissioner, according to a report by The Legislative Gazette.

Dr. Zucker is the First Deputy Commissioner of Health, and previously served as a clinical professor of anesthesiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University and a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist at Montefiore Medical Center, both located in New York City.

Dr. Zucker was named First Deputy Commissioner of Health in September 2013. He will now take over the duties of former New York Health Commissioner Nirav Shah, MD. Dr. Shah is leaving to take an executive position with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan in California, according to the report.
