Dr. George Mashour succeeds 30-year anesthesia department chair at Michigan Medicine

George Mashour, MD, PhD, was installed Dec 1. as chair of the anesthesiology department at Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine.

Four key points:

1. Dr. Mashour succeeds Kevin Tremper, MD, PhD, who served as anesthesiology chair for nearly 30 years.

2. Dr. Mashour, the former Bert N. La Du Professor of Anesthesiology Research, was also named the Robert B. Sweet Professor of Anesthesiology, effective Dec. 1.

3. With the new appointment, Dr. Mashour is relinquishing his roles as the medical school’s associate dean for clinical and translational research, associate chair for research in the anesthesia department, director of the Center for Consciousness Science, and executive director of translational research for the central office of research.

4. He will continue serving as director of the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research until a successor is named.
