CMS Data Shows Anesthesiology Ranked Among Lowest Specialties for Medicare Allowed Amounts

Anesthesiology is among the lowest specialties for Medicare allowed amounts, according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

CMS recently released on services and procedures provided to Medicare beneficiaries by physicians and other healthcare professionals.

ASA conducted a preliminary review and found that there are 32,641 physician anesthesiologists and 30,160 nurse anesthetists. Also, for both nurse anesthetists and physician anesthesiologists, Medicare payment as percent of charges was 15 percent.
