Brain Monitor May Prevent Patient Awareness During Anesthesia

A new brain awareness monitor may notify surgeons if a patient regains awareness while under anesthesia, according to KMBZ.

Developed by neuroscientist Giulio Tononi, MD, the machine stimulates the brain with an electrical current to see if the current spreads across the brain. Anesthesia stops these signals from spreading, according to the report.
