Another Florida Region Places Tougher Requirements on Pain Management Centers

The Hillsborough County (Fla.) Board of County Commissioners voted 7-0 in support of licensing pain management clinics in the region after the Sheriff’s Office warned of a pattern of illegal drug abuse linked to clinics in the area, according to a report in the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

Starting June 15, pain management clinics in the county must receive a license in order to stay open, according to the report. The ordinance will work in conjunction with Florida State Senate Bill 2272, which places tougher restrictions on controlled substances, scheduled to take effect Oct. 1.

Hillsborough County is the fourth region in Florida to place tougher restrictions on pain management clinics in recent months. Port St. Lucie, Lake Work and Delray Beach and Stuart have also enacted stronger regulations and/or moratoriums on pain management clinics this year.
