According to the report, the nitrous oxide tank exploded around the same time that an office fire erupted, around 7 a.m. The gas was used as an anesthetic in the oral surgery office, run by Kenji Higuchi, MD, and Daniel Skinner, MD.
The fire department does not know what sparked the fire or whether the tank exploded after the fire started. The fire was traced to a room containing the nitrous oxide as well as a smaller oxygen container.
