An anesthesiologist has been selected from a pool of more than 8,000 applicants to begin training for future flights to the International Space Station, the moon and eventually, Mars, CBS News reported Sept. 22.
Imelda Muller, MD, is a former undersea medical officer for the U.S. Navy. She earned her medical degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington.
Dr. Muller was in the process of completing her residency in anesthesia at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore at the time of her astronaut selection.
