Anesthesiologist Dr. Deane Marchbein Elected President of Doctors Without Borders

Anesthesiologist Deane Marchbein, MD, was elected president of the board of directors for Doctors Without Borders USA, an international organization that provides healthcare and medical training in war-torn and impoverished countries, according to The Boston Globe.

Prior to her election, Dr. Marchbein worked in private practice for 19 years and then joined Massachusetts General Hospital Cambridge Health Alliance on an arrangement for her to take an annual four-month unpaid leave to volunteer with Doctors Without Borders.

As president, Dr. Marchbein will be the organization’s public representative to other societies, the media and donors. She will work to recruit workers for the organization.

She completed an internship in internal medicine, a residency in anesthesia and two fellowships in pediatric and cardiac anesthesia.
