Anesthesia group inks new deal with BCBS after Trinity Health files lawsuit — 3 details

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan signed a new provider contract with Anesthesia Associates of Ann Arbor (Mich.), which Trinity Health has taken to court for alleged breach of contract, Crain's Detroit Business reports.

Three details:

1. The contract is set at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's standard statewide rate.

2. Anesthesia Associates of Ann Arbor, or A4, is Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health's exclusive anesthesia provider. A4 provides anesthesia services at the health system's six hospitals and has been embroiled in rate disputes with multiple insurers.

3. Trinity filed a federal lawsuit against A4 on July 23. The suit alleges that by terminating contracts with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Priority Health — and sending termination notices to other insurers — A4 violated its obligation to ensure patients are fully covered at Trinity hospitals.
