A research team at Wake Forest University in North Carolina found that weight loss six months after gastric bypass significantly reduces inflammation associated with the development of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
Previous studies on gastric bypass have shown that surgery followed by diet and exercise targeted fat loss inside the abdominal cavity and younger patients improved performance of daily activities within about three weeks, compared with about seven months for older patients.
