10 lowest-paying states for surgeons | 2023

Alabama is the lowest paying state for surgeons in the U.S., according to data published April 25 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The 10 states where surgeons receive the lowest pay: 

1. Alabama: $235,120 

2. Washington: $247,940 

3. New York: $249,450

4. California: $286,080

5. Missouri: $308,090

6. Massachusetts: $308,410

7. Alaska: $311,440 

8. Illinois: $319,710 

9. Michigan: $323,570

10. Tennessee: $324,550
