The companies will establish an accountable care organization to help community and rural hospitals bring value-based care to patients, the release said. More health systems in the state will be able to collaborate to provide high-quality, low-cost care under Blue Premier.

“Extending value-based care through Blue Premier is an important next step in supporting community and rural hospitals, especially as the pandemic has exposed the flaws of fee-for-service,” Von Nguyen, MD, Blue Cross NC CMO, said in a statement. “Caravan Health will be an essential part of making the benefits of value-based care available to more Blue Cross NC members through access to better, more affordable care.”
