What you should know:
1. MUSC opened the Digestive Disease Research Core Center and the Center for Biomedical Research Excellence in Digestive and Liver Disease this spring.
2. Gastroenterologist Don Rockey, MD, leads the Digestive Disease Research Core Center, which is one of only 17 in the U.S.
3. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases granted the center DDRCC designation. To qualify as such, a center must have a team of investigators who are recognized as leaders in digestive disease research.
4. Thirty researchers staff MUSC’s research center and will research inflammation, fibrosis and organ dysfunction throughout the gastrointestinal tract.
