Three things to know:
1. Dr. Waterman has been a member of UC San Diego’s faculty for seven years, and she has served as the anesthesia department’s interim chair since 2018.
2. In her new position, Dr. Waterman will continue overseeing clinical care and overall department operations.
3. With the department already using predictive modeling and other technologies, Dr. Waterman expects big data to play an increasingly large role in how her team optimizes patient care.
