Hospitals-ASC joint ventures growing

Hospitals are increasingly pursuing physician joint ventures, according to a 2019 survey from outpatient healthcare group Avanza Healthcare Strategies.

Avanza developed the survey with HealthLeaders Media, polling 119 senior executives.

Three things to know:

1. In 2019, 73 percent of hospitals operate ASCs as physician joint ventures, up from 67 percent last year.

2. Twenty-seven percent of hospitals do not operate a physician joint venture ASC.

3. Forty-one percent of hospitals have an affiliation with or ownership of one or more ASCs.
