Four insights:
1. Life safety applies to all risks that could arise when patients can’t move by themselves.
2. Life safety requirements are different at ASCs, which don’t have overnight patients like hospitals and medical centers do.
3. Life safety measures include fire panels, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, generators and exit signs, to name a few. ASCs should regularly test these systems and tools to ensure they’re functioning properly.
4. It’s important for ASCs to document all testing and maintenance in the life safety compliance book.
