1. Self-employed physicians continue earning more than employed physicians:
Self-employed: $359,000 annual salary
Employed: $289,000 annual salary
2. Male specialists earned 33 percent more than female specialists, down slightly from 36 percent in 2018:
Male specialists: $372,000 annual salary
Female specialists: $280,000 annual salary
3. Male specialists spend about 9 percent more time seeing patients than their female peers:
Male specialists: 40 hours per week
Female specialists: 37 hours per week
4. Women may spend slightly more time on paperwork and administrative work each week:
Male specialists: 15 hours per week
Female specialists: 16 hours per week
