48+ hour stay bill for Florida ASCs advances through House committee

A recurring bill that would allow patients to stay at ASCs for up to 48 hours after surgery advanced through its first Florida House Committee, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The key details to know:

1. The bill was amended to include a proposal that would allow physicians to deliver babies through C-section with anesthesia.

2. If the bill is passed, surgeons in the state will be able keep patients at the ASC for up to 48 hours after surgery.

3. The bill aims to promote competition that may result in reduced healthcare prices.

4. A separate bill, allowing for overnight stays at ASCs up to 24 hours after surgery, cleared its first Senate committee in Florida before the legislative session began.
