Orthopedic surgeon kept seeing patients after California suspended his license: 5 things to know

The Medical Board of California accused Fresno, Calif-based orthopedic surgeon John Janda, MD, of practicing medicine on a suspended license, the Fresno Bee reported.

1. Dr. Janda’s license was suspended June 1, 2017 but he allegedly kept seeing patients after that date, according to the court accusation.

2. The Medical Board of California alleged Dr. Janda back-dated prescriptions so they appeared to be issued before his license was suspended.

3. Dr. Janda allegedly lost consciousness three times during surgery, according to a June 2017 interim suspension order.

4. The medical board previously revoked his license in 2015 for gross negligence and repeated negligent acts in his care of two patients. Dr. Janda was put on three years of probation, but the board is petitioning to remove his probation.

5.  His medical license will be revoked if his probation is removed.
