Orthopedic surgeon uses customized 3D printed implant for total talus surgery: 3 key details

Rajiv Shah, MS, an orthopedic surgeon who practices at the Vadodara, India-based Global Hospital, used a 3D printed implant in a total talus replacement, 3DPrint.com reported.

Here are three details to know:

1. The implant was patient-specific. Dr. Shah took a CT scan of the patient’s detached talus and used it to create the 3D-printed implant.

2. The titanium implant was created using an EOS M 280 3D printer.

3. It took three weeks to create the implant, and the surgery took place the first week of July.
